HAIR – THROUGH THE SOCIAL LENS
Hair II / 2023 / Oil on canvas / 115 x 100 cm
A celebration of the diverse expressions of femininity – original, vibrant, in full bloom. Hair is more than adornment: it serves as an archive of personal and collective identity and as a symbol of tradition, self-determination, and individual expression.
In painting, hair is deliberately represented in different ways: loose, suggested under a headscarf, or overpainted with color. This makes visible how hair unites tradition, freedom, and personal expression. Whether covered or uncovered, hair reflects a wide spectrum of lived realities and can signify modesty, spirituality, or individual expression, depending on cultural context.
Between visibility and concealment, intimacy and representation, hair functions as a multifaceted medium, revealing the dimensions of femininity and inviting a reconsideration of what femininity can mean.
