Like so many things in traditional fairy tales and legends, there is also a grain of truth in them, which is deepened in the appendix of the book, where commodities and information about the use of the herbs and spices presented are explained.

Birgit Damer

The author Birgit Damer is a goldsmith and passionate cook. While working for the cruise company TUI Cruises, she followed in the footsteps of ancient spice traders, collected fairy tales and myths entwined around the precious treasures of nature and put them down on paper. Besides Tales of Stones and Stars, this is the second collaboration with the Swiss illustrator Carole Isler. Birgit Damer lives with two cats and many herbs on the island of Lanzarote, where she runs a shop for design products from her own workshop with her husband.

Each tale is accompanied by two illustrations; one shows the herb or spice, the other the heroines, an object from the story or a scene. Here are some book illustrations:
